The Learning Center participates on its own scale in the ecological transition and solidarity
From April 24 to 28 April take place the 4th edition of Earth Week organized by Esp’R on the HEC Paris campus. This is an opportunity to present the different actions carried out by the Learning Center to contribute to a more sober and sustainable future. We also take advantage of this event to share with you a selection of our resources (books, magazines, films) related to the themes that will be addressed this week: energy, biodiversity, climate, agriculture, etc.
Why throw away when you can give?
The Learning Center is committed to changing the way it works in order to respond to environmental issues. For several years, we have been participating in the recycling of books, magazines and occasionally furniture belonging to the Learning Center through the implementation of various events:
- The Book Fair
The Learning Center regularly calls for book donations from the HEC Paris community. We collect a part of them to feed our collection. The other part is sold during our Book Fair, organized every year since 2012. We then donate the profits to Bouquin Volant, a non-profit organization that fights illiteracy in the world, with which we have been collaborating for more than 10 years now. Thanks to your participation, 530€ have been collected during the academic year 2022-2023 from the resale of books, but also from several donations.
The Learning Center also redistributes some of the books to Ammareal, a solidarity bookstore selling second-hand books at affordable prices.
- The distribution of Le Monde newspaper
Every year, the Learning Center organizes an event that is particularly appreciated by students and others on campus: “What happened the day you were born”, during which we distribute the original edition of the newspaper Le Monde of the day of your birth!
Some of our paper magazines have been archived in our basement for anything from of 1 to 10 years and we have decided to give a second life to some of them. This is the case for “Le Monde” archives, which we can no longer store beyond 10 years. Thus, since 2021, we, offer the copies that we can no longer keep free of charge.
- A collaboration with the association Esp’R
As part of the new layout of the press area, the Learning Center had to dispose of three magazine racks. Aware of HEC’s policy in favor of an ecological approach, our service has opted for an act of solidarity by donating this furniture. It is therefore quite natural that we chose the Esp’R association which promotes ecology. The student volunteers were looking for furniture to store organic and local products in their grocery store Le Local, located in building F.
Feel free to come and take a look during their opening hours!
We also gave one of the three pieces of furniture to an individual who is currently creating an educational farm in the Orne department.
